Summer Camp 2024
St. Mary’s Sunshine Center will be offering themed camps filled with fun and adventure. Each session is full of hands-on activities that focus on different interests. Some weeks will have field trips and/or guest speakers.
Week 1: 6/17-6/21 Craft-tastic Campers will tap into their creative abilities to make lots of fun crafts! They will explore various mediums to create many handmade treasures. Campers will discover the most beautiful creations are perfectly imperfect and unique.
Week 2: 6/24-6/28 Welcome to the Great Outdoors! Let’s get dirty! Campers will be using different gardening tools to plant and grow our very own garden! Campers will be able to see their hard work grow throughout the summer and taste different items from a garden and sample tasty seeds! After creating our garden, let’s get camping. Campers will learn the fundamentals of camping.
Week 3: 7/1-7/5 Party in the USA- We will explore some fun celebrations in the USA. We will also learn about Maryland and some of the ways our state is unique and special.
Week 4: 7/8-7/12 Science Matters- Matter is all around us! Campers will safely explore all three states of matter: solid, liquid and gas. We will do hands on experiments and make learning fun!
Week 5: 7/15-7/19 Kids Cuisine Campers will be given the opportunity to plan and prepare a variety of yummy snacks and meals. They will work on basic cooking skills as they make tasty treats using simple kitchen tools and terminology. Campers will learn about kitchen safety and healthy food choices. Creativity and fun are at the top of the menu!
Week 6: 7/22-7/26 Making Waves Campers will explore the properties of water hands on. Campers will build rivers and dams, observe what happens when water evaporates and experiment with water drops. This week is packed with wet and wild games including kiddy pool kickball, water relay race, water balloon toss and much more. Be prepared to get wet!
Week 7: 7/29-8/2 MythBusters- Myth Busted! Campers will use the scientific method to prove or bust some urban legends and other theories. Campers will do lots of hands-on experiments. Using trial and error to test their own hypothesis. Which myths are true and which myths can we bust; we’re excited to find out!
Week 8: 8/5-8/9 Crazy for Critters Cute, cuddly, scaly, or creepy, any way you look at it, animals are fascinating. Campers will investigate animal habitats, the needs of animals and their survival skills. Fun week for animal lovers!
Week 9: 8/12-8/16 Music Makers- What could be better than a week full of music and movement! Campers will create instruments and explore ways to make various sounds. They will get to explore different instruments and musical genres. We will have our very own “Camp Sunshine Center’s Got Talent” at the end of the week and encourage all our campers to bring their talent!
Sunshine summer camps are for ages 5 through 12. Campers will be placed in groups according to age and/or ability. Camp costs include camp and daycare between 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. A $15.00 registration fee is due at time of registration for new Campers. Registration fee does not apply to current Sunshine students. There is an $80.00 deposit per week due at time of registration for all campers. Remaining balance must be paid on or prior to June 16th. Summer Camp Registration Process and Policies
First Time Campers- Print and fill out all the enrollment forms found on St. Mary’s Sunshine Center’s website sunshine-center.com; Emergency Card, Health Inventory with an updated shot record, All about Me form and the Summer Camp registration. The forms and form of payment can be turned in to the front desk at St. Mary’s Sunshine Center or emailed to sunshineadmin@sunshine-center.com. All new campers pay a one-time $15 registration fee. (no fee for returning campers and current Sunshine Center students)
Current Sunshine Student and Returning Campers: Print and fill out the summer camp registration form found on our website. The form can be turned in at the front desk or emailed to sunshineadmin@sunshine-center.com.
Tuition and Fees: Camp costs $245 per camp week. There is an $80.00 non-refundable deposit per camp week. This is a non-refundable deposit payable to St. Mary’s Sunshine Center. The deposit will be applied to the camp fee. The remaining balance for ALL camp weeks is due June 14th. Payment in full will be due at the time of registration for anyone registering after May 31st. Deposits are non-refundable.
Payment Methods: Payment can be made by credit card (Visa, Master Card, Discover) or current Tuition Express account.
Lunch/Snacks: Campers must bring their own food. They will need am snack, a ready to eat lunch and a pm snack. 1% milk will be provided to drink with meals. Please do not send soda with your child.
Let us know if your child has any dietary restrictions or food allergies.
Documentation from your child’s physician is required and can be turned in to the front desk or faxed to (301) 475-2397.
Special Needs or Medical Concerns: Let us know at time of enrollment if your child has any medical concerns or special needs. Additional information is needed for your child to enroll. A medication form must be filled out for any medication, prescribed or over the counter, that your child will need. This form can be found on our website.
Field Trips and Guest Speakers: Trips will be optional and have additional costs.
Water day/ Ice Cream: Every Wednesday, weather permitting, campers will have water day and a special treat at no additional cost to parents. For water day your child will need a bathing suit, water shoes (NO Flip Flops), towel, and sunscreen. Sunscreen is to be applied in the morning before arrival and will be reapplied in the afternoon. Water Day items will be sent home every week to be washed. Sunscreen can remain at the center to be applied every afternoon at outside time.
